If you’re thinking of buying or selling a home in Victoria that is on Indigenous lease land, Laurie is the Realtor for you. We bought and now just sold in the Songhees Retirement Community with Laurie as our agent. It is different from purchasing freehold property and it is important to pay attention to the different terms in the contract and what they mean. Laurie has experience with this type of agreement and explained the contract thoroughly. There are a few key questions that came up, for example, how long does it take to register the title? Laurie explained that the original documents need to go to Ottawa, so it always takes longer. For that reason, she recommended we take out Title Insurance that includes Gap insurance to protect our investment. When we listed our home, we were missing the CSA (Canada Standards Association) inspection sticker typically affixed to the electrical panel. Laurie had her electrician do the inspection and we got the CSA sticker: problem solved. With Laurie’s help, we must have priced our home well, we accepted the first offer, all conditions are removed. Our house sold pretty fast. We think Laurie’s photographer, feature sheets, advice on staging and getting rid of clutter were key to our quick sale.
