Why Dave gives:

The Bible states in the gospel of Luke, “For everyone to whom much is given, from him, much will be required”. I had an incredible example in that my parents gave much of their resources and time to others and to worthy organizations. My wife, myself, and our family have adopted these fine examples and believe in giving back and paying it forward. It is an exciting time every new year when my wife and I sit down to determine our giving for the next year. Lives are changed, lives are blessed and lives are saved when people who have been blessed, bless others.

Why Ron gives:

Born and raised here in beautiful Victoria on Vancouver Island, from an early age I experienced the joy of giving and helping others through service and later through financial contributions. I feel very fortunate to be able to give back and help others and do so through dozens of worthy causes including CMN for BC Children's Hospital, Our Place Shelter, Santa's Anonymous, various food banks, cancer, diabetes and mental health agencies, numerous youth sports teams, etc... My primary charity of choice is BC Children's Hospital which helps sick kids get better. They really do need our help and we really do make a difference. There are more than 2,000 patient visits from our sickest kids from Vancouver Island to BC Children's every year for serious trauma, brain injuries, cancer, heart ailments and other serious conditions. My sister had a son born with a serious heart defect. Sadly, despite the amazing efforts of our Children's Hospital medical team (who are among the best on the planet), Kayo was lost after surgery at 2 days old. In the past couple of decades, the survival rate of children born with similar challenges has improved significantly. Also, for example, childhood cancer survival rate has improved from 20% to 80%! Our collective donations made this difference. In addition to my personal pledge to donate a portion of every commission earned which I started in 1998, I served on the hospital foundation Board of Governors for more than 10 years, sponsor an annual Easter Egg Hunt, support the Festival of Trees and am an active participant/buyer at our annual company fundraising auctions supporting CMN and Children's Hospitals. At the end of 2021, my personal donations to CMN and BC Children's Hospital exceeded a cumulative $600,000. My aim is to exceed $1,000,000 in my lifetime and have made a provision in my will to ensure that. Every dollar makes a difference and over time dollars add up! Together we can make a difference.

Why Linda gives:

I am an advocate for the Alzheimer’s Society. I am on the Board of Governors for The MB Realtor's Shelter Foundation and Luther Home. I donate back to the Community from each sale we finalize. I set aside $200 from each home I sell and at the end of the year I distribute what I have collected back to charities that are important to me. My mom and mother in-law both have dementia so the Alzheimer Society is top of my list. Having pets and knowing that so many are homeless puts the Humane Society on my list. I also contribute to The MB Realtors Shelter Foundation, The Winnipeg Foundation, The Christmas Cheer Board and MB Harvest.

Why Amber gives:

As realtors we have the opportunity to build successful businesses that rely on the community and support of those around us. I have always believed that as my business continues to grow and succeed, that giving back to those who need it most is one way to show my extreme appreciation and gratitude for the support I have received. There are so many worthy causes out there (this long list shows that!) but I have a personal connection to a few close to my heart. My last career before becoming a Realtor was with Habitat for Humanity, and I was able to experience firsthand the unbelievable change that having a home and roots in a community has on families. I support Habitat through sponsoring some of their fundraising events throughout the year. Secondly, I was on the board of the Green Action Centre for many years helping them achieve their goals of grass roots eco-education, eco-friendly awareness, community events, compost initiatives, active transportation and more. Being "Green" is something that has always been a part of who I am, and the choices I make. GAC is a wonderful organization of hard-working green enthusiasts that deserve support. Lastly, I am the current Chair of The Manitoba Realtors Shelter Foundation and have been on their board for 5 years now, and was on the Gimme Shelter board (and past Chair) prior to this position. Our work at the Shelter Foundation is far reaching into vulnerable communities in Manitoba. It's always so eye-opening meeting the staff and volunteers from the organizations we're able to support (approx. 10 every year) and the incredible heart and soul everyone puts into their positions helping homelessness, immigrants, elderly, women, children, vulnerable, and more. I thank each and every one of my clients for supporting me, so that we together are able to support these amazing, deserving, life changing organizations. Thanks for reading!

Why Lindsay gives:

From an early age my father was the president of the board at our local boys and girls club. He started the local golf tournament that became instrumental for their fundraising efforts. I watched him donate a $50 bill to every salvation army kettle in the malls at Christmas time and speak to each volunteer thanking them for their hours served. He was my role model and what I have seen with my families involvement with our youth and homelessness I knew I had to step up. I love giving back and started a volunteer committee called L.O.V.E (London Ontario Volunteer Experts) but also try to financially give when I can. I do a lot of fundraisers and volunteer work while donating a portion of my commission to our local womans shelter. I am in the top 1% nationally for donating to our Royal LePage Shelter foundation and I also donate to other big causes near and dear to my heart by either sponsoring or donating directly.

Why Laurie J gives:

When I turned 50 in 2020, it was celebrated by fighting breast cancer. As I was going through radiation in June of 2020, there was a day when I was feeling pretty rough, and very sorry for myself. I looked up as I heard the noise of a hospital bed coming down the hall. On that bed I saw an amazingly heroic person. He couldn't have been more than 4 or 5 years old. I may never know his name and I don't know what he was battling. It was obvious it was a pretty big fight though and as I watched him roll by for his treatment, with his Mom walking behind with a bag full of books and toys to keep him happy, I immediately broke down and started to cry. Not some little tear down the cheek, quiet kind of cry...it was the all out bouncing shoulders, chest heaving sobs, nose running, can't stop it if I even wanted to kind of cry. I have always been a CHEO supporter, donating a portion of my income for 23 years through the Miracle Home Program as a RE/MAX REALTOR®, as well as being what I call a "Couch potato Giver" - happily supporting anyone that is fundraising for the hospital. But this hit me differently and has become my "Why". I can understand fighting a disease as an adult, in a life half lived already...but every fibre of my being was overtaken by a feeling of how inherently wrong it is for ANY child to have to fight anything. I realized CHEO had been there for all the scrapes, minor surgeries and everything in between. Not only for me, but for my kids and grandkids. I had spent years taking them for granted. Seeing a 4 year old roll through the Ottawa General Campus radiation section because obviously CHEO was overrun that day broke. my. heart. Something changed in me that day and I have spent the last 2 years preparing to become the "Doer" that I hope to remain. In my own small way, I want to support all the incredible staff at CHEO, as well as all the amazing kids, AND their parents, that are fighting every single day.

Why Kirk gives:

Through my parents and my church the act of giving back has always been made a prominent facet of trying to live a "loving life". I believe it is good to do a combination of giving that is not publicized in anyway, to maintain the fidelity of the act, but also to do some giving that is publicized to create an example and normalize the act of giving. I believe the more that others see the people around them giving, the more they will be encouraged, and ultimately realize the huge win-win of loving someone else through acts of kindness; monetary or otherwise. Over time giving becomes easier, letting things go; I think it's like a muscle you need to develop. I'm not proud of how much I give, I need to give more, but the small amount I have given so far is a step in the right direction. So I encourage anyone reading this, no amount is too small, it will be a step in the right direction, and lay a platform for you to build upon. I humbly must admit I am only able to give out of the good graces of God and all my tremendously supportive clients and friends who support my business... they are the true givers, so a huge "thank you!" to all of them :)

Why Jeff gives:

I believe in building up the community around me. There are so many reasons and causes to get behind and support. Two of the main organizations my family and I choose to support: Through the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, we support local shelters that are there for women and children fleeing violence, know 100% of the funds raised go directly to the shelter. Everyone has the right to a safe home. Breaking the chain of violence will only build a stronger community and a stronger future for the next generation. Mental health is something that impacts us all and our family is no exception. Losing someone in your family due to a struggle with mental health is something we want others to avoid experiencing. The annual walk and talk for mental health raises funds to support much needed and underfunded services on our community so that people can get the professional support when they may not be able to afford it. We also encourage everyone to check in with people you know and yourself. Have a conversation about mental health and creat a comfortable environment/relationship to be open and honest about it.

Why Kim gives:

I am a strong believer of "to whom much has been given, much is expected". I have been extremely fortunate in my life and have had a pull since a young age to help and support others with my time and financial contribution. I have had strong advocates in my life to bolster me and to speak up on my behalf if needed. I have always felt supported and recognize this for the huge gift that it is. Because of this, I feel compelled to help and I tend to align with charities that support individuals who don't have their own voice to advocate for themselves, or who feel alone. Most of the charities that I contribute to with my time and financial resources are those that support children, animals and individuals struggling with mental health. I have always been taught that it doesn't take much to create a change in someone's life...sometimes something as simple as smile to a stranger. I am grateful for my opportunities to contribute. #bettertogether

Why Marcus gives:

Having 3 kids of my own I know all to well the financial challenges for everyday expenses not to mention providing them with a good up bringing. I have had to travel for hospital visits but fortunately for small procedures. Having all 3 of my kids playing sports and watching all the kids develop I just love. Donating to the children’s hospital is something that RE/MAX does with the help of all their agents. I donate a small portion of each sale to the IWK which is a perfect fit for me. Having spent some time at this hospital you can clearly see the money is well spent and these children are cared for. Outside of this donation I am a continue supporter of my kids supports teams donating thousands of dollars a year. After my first born started university this past September and once again seeing the financial challenges I have decided to start a scholarship for this coming fall. I am very fortunate to have been selling Real Estate for the past 22 years and have continued support from my clients. It’s not always about making money for me. My goal everyday is to make the people around me happy.

Why Bryon gives:

Over the years I have sought charities that have a direct impact on the lives of others. Recently, my personal charity of choice has been Habitat for Humanity in Southern Alberta. This is a non-profit organization that brings the community together to help local families build strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership.   Families purchase their homes with no down payment and no interest, and mortgage payments never exceed more than 25 percent of each family’s total household income.   Since 1990, Habitat has partnered with more than 300 families across southern Alberta, affecting the lives of nearly 900 children. I've seen families thrive with affordable home ownership, and am proud of my involvement.

With over 35 years of active community service and being heavily involved with charitable organizations I know all too well the challenges that charities face when it comes to funding. There are numerous organizations in our community that provide valuable and essential services and support to area residents. Without the funds needed to carry out their programs far too many people would loose. I'm fortunate to be in a position to give back and believe that to those who much is given much is expected.
