I have had an unpleasant experience dealing with Lori Chenier as the selling agent during our recent house purchase. The house, originally built in 1907, was marketed as having received, “Updates throughout the years include windows, roof, paint, and furnace.” It came as a nasty surprise when our inspection revealed that the furnace was a 2004 model and nineteen years old, a detail omitted in the sales pitch. When this was raised with Ms. Chenier, she stated that she took, “exception for you implying the listing was misleading. The items have been updated over the years” and that she “never said it was new.” According to our inspector, “these units typically have lifespans of around 20 years.” Further, a miscommunication about the property rights significantly impacted our purchase experience. Ms. Chenier informed our buying agent that access rights meant that “the neighbor to the left of the house if you’re looking at the house, can access her fence.” We later discovered that the reality was vastly different. The neighbor, in fact has a substantial 13-feet by 130-feet right of access (which equals approximately a third of our property), for the purpose of maintaining existing and future buildings. Overall, if you're considering purchasing a house listed by Lori Chenier, I would strongly urge you to get an inspection done. We also suggest to involve a lawyer to meticulously review the purchase documents prior to signing - something we wish we had done ourselves. Otherwise, you may risk making decisions without access to the full and accurate information. - Yannick Veilleux-Lepage
