We were a retiring military family moving to Okotoks and only had 1 week to find and purchase a home. I made that very clear to Rob three weeks before coming to Alberta from our last posting in Ontario. I emailed him our requirements and told him. Needed to have as many homes matching our requirements that be ready to view on the days we would be in Alberta and that we had to purchase a home before returning to Ontario. If we did not we would have to cover the cost of returning out of our own pocket. I phoned Rob on our way to the airport and he said to call him when we got there so we could let him know what houses we wanted to see so he could try and set up viewings!! He had not made any arrangements for us at all. After we arrived he began telling us about some silly program he had invented to teach people how to buy a home, we explained we didn’t need lessons we needed to view homes that matched our requirements. Over the next few days he showed us the most dirty horrible homes that didn’t match our need. We explained we wanted to build a pool and he showed us homes with no back yard or on hills. He constantly tried to show us homes in another town when we told him we didn’t want to live there. We finally found a home we felt we could enjoy and gave him an offer to put in for cash asking price no conditions that the owner had until 11pm to give us an answer. We would fly home in two days so we had to know that night. By 11pm no answer and Rob wouldn’t answer his cell. By 1am I was frantic and though I knew I shouldn’t I called the sellers realtors phone who reluctantly told me they had received and excepted our offer. At 2am Rob called my hotel to say sorry he fell asleep before 11 and didn’t wake up to call us. Unreal. Our home is nice but we later found out Okotoks has a lake community, we would have come up about 40-50k to buy a home there and forgone the pool, in my opinion a better realtor would have caught that. We constantly talked about missing the lake we lived on in Ontario that’s why we wanted a pool. I really can’t believe how awful our experience was, even my parents and sisters and 17 year old daughter who accompanied us and met him had the opinion that he had a lack of knowledge support and professionalism. I do not recommend this realtor . This of course is only my opinion and you should do your own due diligence. - Debbie Lefebvre
