This is my third home I've bought with Dory. She has also sold one of my homes. She is honest and doesn't feed you what you want to hear; she tells you what you need to hear. If you're willing to do the extra work, she'll tell you exactly what you need to do to sell. She did an amazing job staging after I did the renos and it sold on the first day. I really can't praise Dory enough for her hard work. She has a wealth of knowledge in the real estate world and I can't begin to explain every little detail that she just knows everything about. This is my second home that I've bought with her and I would recommend her to everyone. There are realtors out there that just want the sale and will tell you what you want to hear, but not Dory. A friend recommended Dory to us, and I'm so glad he did. We really like her. She always gave it to us straight. We may not have always liked her opinion- but she wasn't afraid to tell us what she really thought, and because she has so much experience with Calgary real estate, we had to acknowledge her opinions- she knows her stuff. She went above and beyond what we expected of any realtor. As our 5 month search for our dream home progressed, so did our ideas (and budget and location- poor Dory lol) on what we wanted, and Dory never became frustrated when we changed our minds on what we valued in a home. We ended up putting in offers on three homes- one the seller wouldn't come down enough (but she gave it her all trying- and we appreciated it), the second...Dory advised us not to but we did anyway, and it ended up not going through because the home inspection was so awful...and the third house...we loved it, Dory expressed approval...home inspection went through great, and we've been here for 4 months now. We love it. We're home...and so thankful the other houses didn't go through. And we still hear from Dory, which is pretty neat. She genuinely cares for her clients- which makes her a rare and special person. Even on the house she didn't approve of, she still fought to get us the price we were looking for- she's a professional. I think some people are looking for a puppet or a "yes man" and if you are- Dory isn't going to be a good fit. She's probably honest to her own detriment sometimes, but that kind of integrity is hard to find in someone that's selling you something...so keep that in mind. Just because someone will smile and nod to everything you say, doesn't make them good or caring. The ones that really care will say the things you don't want to hear hoping to prevent future regrets. We hope to never move, but if we do, Dory will be the first person we look up. - Stef Doyle
Dory Cameron went above and beyond in every aspect of selling my condo and buying our new home. She ensured that my condo was ready to sell by painting, cleaning, staging, and doing any needed repairs so that the condo would be move-in ready for potential buyers. In addition to Dory’s hard work to get the condo ready to sell, she had an in depth understanding of the condo market, and we were able to price my condo competitively, such that it sold within 5 days of listing in a market that was being flooded with condos. Other condos in the same complex were on the market upwards of 3 months. When we started looking at buying a house, Dory was great as well, and she imparted on us her knowledge of Calgary and investment potential of different neighborhoods. When we found a house we liked, she did all of the necessary research to ensure that we would be happy with and not regret our purchase. Upon making an offer, Dory was extremely organized with all of the necessary paperwork and gave us great recommendations during negotiations based on her expertise. She did not stop working on our case until the deal had gone through and all of the conditions were removed. I loved working with Dory’s straightforward approach as she would tell us what she thought, based on her expertise and allow us to make decisions based on that. Dory Cameron is honest and hard working. She staged it and sold it within 3 weeks. She didn't charge me for the staging. I have recommended her to my friends. She is very hard working and goes out of her way to help. I was so surprised to see her moping, cleaning and shovelling my way when I was not there. Amazing. She has her own style of working. Unprofessional, rude, and uses condescending tone. She is "discounted" for a reason. Would not recommend her services to anyone.
Reply: I'm sorry your experience was not a positive one. Usually I try to be as professional as possible. There is one incidence where I was possibly rude on the phone. I was staging a house in SE Calgary and the ladder slipped. I landed up falling on my back and broke 3 ribs. Then my cell phone rang. I should have let it go to voice mail but took the call. I was in extreme pain. My ribs have since healed and I'm sure you are the client who called and caught me at a very difficult time. Again, my apologies. Dory Cameron is honest. This is why I used her. My other realtor could not sell my house. She staged it and it sold within a week with no price reduction needed. She didn't charge me for the staging. I have recommended her to my cousin. C. Spina
In today's market there are too many options in real estate but I doubt there is a realtor as effective as Dory Cameron. What makes her so good? Well, she compounds in-depth experience of the Calgary real estate market with original marketing techniques and very, very hard work. In my case, she sold my 413 Woodland Crescent SE home in the upper range of the real estate market value in just six days. I know from co-workers (who referred her to me in the first place) she is also very good when buying. She definitely will be my first choice for any future real estate deals. She put no pressure on me and enabled me to get the best possible return on my property. If this wasn't enough, Dory's fees are one of the most competitive in the market! This realtor panics when a property is slow to sell and pressures you to make dramatic price drops. After we dropped the price twice to the tune of $30,000.00 she wanted to drop again another $10,000.00. After we said no she moved out her staging (during a showing) and canceled her contract leaving clients who have made her over $30,000.00 in 10 years high and dry. She may be a discount broker charging 1% but she will discount your home by much more!!In the end you will lose$$$
Reply: Hi Bryan. While I am disappointed in the review, note that you did land up selling your property with another agent for approximately $70,000 less than what we had it listed for. The realtor you chose after me did not stage the property and I'm not sure if there were any open houses. The market was brutal at the time you listed and between the open houses I held, the independent showings where I showed your property to buyers, the feature sheets in the take-one box, the feedback from each showing that we received, the virtual tour linked to your listing, and the $6,000 staging job that I did at no charge to you, I truly did my very best. Had I been given the chance to list your property for $70,000 less than what we listed it for, no doubt we would have had a sale. As for your contract, please refer to the expiry date. I left the staging items in and encouraged showings after the expiry date in an effort to get your home sold. And naturally I would never remove staging items while a showing was taking place. In fact the realtor showed up to show your home and I was waiting down the street. They stopped in front of the house, didn't like what they saw and then drove away. I proceeded to then, after the realtor had left, to remove the staging items. I know you posted this rating as soon as our listing expired and I'm sure that had you known you would be selling the property with your next realtor for $70,000 less than you had it listed with me, you would have never posted the negative rating.
