Born and raised here in beautiful Victoria on Vancouver Island, from an early age I experienced the joy of giving and helping others through service and later through financial contributions. I feel very fortunate to be able to give back and help others and do so through dozens of worthy causes including CMN for BC Children's Hospital, Our Place Shelter, Santa's Anonymous, various food banks, cancer, diabetes and mental health agencies, numerous youth sports teams, etc... My primary charity of choice is BC Children's Hospital which helps sick kids get better. They really do need our help and we really do make a difference. There are more than 2,000 patient visits from our sickest kids from Vancouver Island to BC Children's every year for serious trauma, brain injuries, cancer, heart ailments and other serious conditions. My sister had a son born with a serious heart defect. Sadly, despite the amazing efforts of our Children's Hospital medical team (who are among the best on the planet), Kayo was lost after surgery at 2 days old. In the past couple of decades, the survival rate of children born with similar challenges has improved significantly. Also, for example, childhood cancer survival rate has improved from 20% to 80%! Our collective donations made this difference. In addition to my personal pledge to donate a portion of every commission earned which I started in 1998, I served on the hospital foundation Board of Governors for more than 10 years, sponsor an annual Easter Egg Hunt, support the Festival of Trees and am an active participant/buyer at our annual company fundraising auctions supporting CMN and Children's Hospitals. At the end of 2021, my personal donations to CMN and BC Children's Hospital exceeded a cumulative $600,000. My aim is to exceed $1,000,000 in my lifetime and have made a provision in my will to ensure that. Every dollar makes a difference and over time dollars add up! Together we can make a difference. Why Rick gives:

There are so many reasons and causes to get behind and support. Two of the main organizations my family and I choose to support: Through the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, we support local shelters that are there for women and children fleeing violence, know 100% of the funds raised go directly to the shelter. Everyone has the right to a safe home. Breaking the chain of violence will only build a stronger community and a stronger future for the next generation. Mental health is something that impacts us all and our family is no exception. Losing someone in your family due to a struggle with mental health is something we want others to avoid experiencing. The annual walk and talk for mental health raises funds to support much needed and underfunded services on our community so that people can get the professional support when they may not be able to afford it. We also encourage everyone to check in with people you know and yourself. Have a conversation about mental health and creat a comfortable environment/relationship to be open and honest about it.Why Shayne gives:

I spent over 40 yrs being quiet about what happened to me and at least 25 years in and out of therapy. The education I received from the Shelter Foundation made all the difference in such little time. They gave me the practical, daily tools to take control of my life and finally move beyond what happened to me and my kids, Thank you Shelter Foundation"Why Bryon gives:

Recently, my personal charity of choice has been Habitat for Humanity in Southern Alberta. This is a non-profit organization that brings the community together to help local families build strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership. Families purchase their homes with no down payment and no interest, and mortgage payments never exceed more than 25 percent of each family’s total household income. Since 1990, Habitat has partnered with more than 300 families across southern Alberta, affecting the lives of nearly 900 children. I've seen families thrive with affordable home ownership, and am proud of my involvement. Why Ben gives:

The Bible states in the gospel of Luke, “For everyone to whom much is given, from him, much will be required”. I had an incredible example in that my parents gave much of their resources and time to others and to worthy organizations. My wife, myself, and our family have adopted these fine examples and believe in giving back and paying it forward. It is an exciting time every new year when my wife and I sit down to determine our giving for the next year. Lives are changed, lives are blessed and lives are saved when people who have been blessed, bless others. Why Elaine gives:

Animal rescue and advocacy are causes that are deeply personal, and I’ve seen firsthand how much support these organizations truly need. By donating a portion of my real estate commissions, I’m able to turn every transaction into something bigger than just a sale - it becomes a way to directly support animals in need, fund lifesaving care, and help create better outcomes for those who don’t have a voice of their own. It’s my way of ensuring the work I do every day contributes to something meaningful, both within my community and beyond.
